Questions

Is percentile the same as percentage?

No. Percentage is your marks out of 100. Percentile tells you what share of candidates scored at or below you — 90 percentile means you did as well as or better than 90% of them, whatever your marks.

How does NTA calculate percentile for JEE Main and CUET?

Percentile = 100 × (number of candidates in the session with a score equal to or less than yours) ÷ (total candidates in that session), worked out to 7 decimal places. Scores from different shifts are normalised this way.

How do I estimate my rank from percentile?

Rank ≈ (100 − percentile) × total candidates ÷ 100. With 12 lakh candidates, 99 percentile is roughly rank 12,000. The real rank also depends on ties, categories and the final merit list.
