Questions
How many bricks are needed for 100 sq ft of wall?
With traditional 230 × 110 × 75 mm bricks and 10 mm joints, a 9-inch wall needs about 900 bricks per 100 sq ft and a 4½-inch wall about 450. Add 5% for breakage.
How much cement is needed for brickwork?
Roughly 1 to 1.4 bags (50 kg) per cubic metre of brickwork in 1 : 6 mortar, depending on joint thickness and whether the frogs are filled. This calculator assumes 10 mm joints, unfilled frogs, dry mortar volume = wet × 1.33 and cement at 1,440 kg/m³ — treat it as an estimate.
Which mortar ratio should I use?
1 : 6 is common for 9-inch load-bearing and outer walls; 1 : 4 or 1 : 5 for 4½-inch partition walls that need extra strength. Always follow your engineer's specification.
